She Said Yes…

I am happy to tell our loyal readers here that on Christmas morning I asked my girlfriend Beth to marry me…

…and she said yes.

I have lots more to say… but I also have an apartment that is in serious need of cleaning after a long battle with wrapping paper and scotch tape… so I will tell you all more later.

UPDATE: …and for those who have been asking about the ring:

Things are looking crazy out there

Police agencies across western New York are strongly urging people NOT to drive this Monday morning.

Travel advisories are in effect for all of Erie, Niagara and Genesee Counties.

The town of Wales is under a travel ban, which means drivers there can be ticketed if they’re caught out on the roads.

The Town and Village of Lancaster are also under a travel ban, as well as a state of emergency.

Many major roadways across the area are closed COMPLETELY this Monday morning because of the dangerous driving conditions.

The 90 is closed all the way from exit 46 in Henrietta to exit 61 at the Pennsylvania state line. The 90 is open from Williamsville tolls to Pennsylvania line.

A dangerous mix of low visibility caused by drifting snow and slippery road conditions sent dozens of vehicles skidding off the New York state thruway overnight.

UPDATE: Thruway reopens

Happy Thanksgiving

i am off to Boston, MA tomorrow morning, so I wouldn’t expect much blogging over the next couple days. I may post a few updates on my personal Twitter account or The Buffalo Bean’s Twitter account.

UPDATE: The Boston Globe has published a list of 64 of the best websites on Boston life “that you should know.” Four blogs made the list for political sites… including my own Hub Politics, which I run with my brother (though my role has changed a bit since I moved to Western New York)

An ideological cousin is hubpolitics.com, run snarkily by Beverly-bred brothers Matt and Aaron Margolis (Matt’s now in western New York). Both keep a sharp eye on the state’s political and moral fiber, such as when Aaron backed the Beverly Farms girls who poked fun at Gloucester’s spike in pregnancies, and they both stayed on top of the Jim Marzilli mess.

Election Night Coverage

Looks like things are all set for me to cover the results of the elections on Tuesday at the Republican Party’s Victory Party. My plan is to do some video broadcasting via Mogulus. Lots of candidates will be there, and I should get to speak with all of them throughout the night.

More details to follow.

Reporting From Beantown

I know I said I wouldn’t be blogging while I was visiting Boston, but I thought I would check in anyway since I can blog on my iPhone with a nifty WordPress application.

Anyway, one nice thing about Boston is that Starbucks is test marketing their new Clover-crafted small batch coffee here. That is one good cup of coffee. I recommend the Kenya Gichatha-Ini beans.

I spent the early part of my evening hanging out at the headquarters of the Massachusetts Republican Party with Rob Willington, the executive director of the MassGOP.

We had an interesting chat about the Republican Party and the new media. Before I left, Rob interviewed me on the subject… which you can hear posted on drop.io.

Well, it has been a long day — walking around the city — it is time to hit the sack.

UPDATE: Here’s a direct link to the audio of the interview.

The Buffalo News’ Bob McCarthy gives us the story:

Chris Collins crafted a reputation for himself on his march to the county executive’s office last fall with a simple yet effective slogan: “Elect a chief executive, not a chief politician.”

Now Collins travels to St. Paul next week for the Republican National Convention and the biggest political stage of all. In fact, Collins will literally stand on that stage when he addresses the convention in prime time on Sept. 2. The theme that night is “reform,” and the spin already surrounding the Collins appearance is “who better to speak of reform than Chris Collins?”

This is an official, certified big deal for the county executive. The GOP is thrilled to showcase a successful businessman who campaigned on a pro-business platform and won a big victory in an overwhelmingly Democratic county. He will be presented as living proof that such an approach can work, and fit nicely into the purpose of modern day conventions.
