Sarah Palin Wins Debate; Siena Poll Shows New York Not In Play
by Matt at Oct 3rd, 2008
I’m still glowing after Sarah Palin’s tremendous victory in tonight’s VP debate, but I did want to chime in on the latest Siena Poll which confirmed my suspicions about their previous poll.
The previous Siena Poll had the race in New York State a statistical tie. The new poll has Barack up 22 points.
Now the narrative behind this new poll is that Obama has “surged” in New York. But, truthfully, it was not a surge, the new poll mirrors Obama’s standing in the state as virtually every other poll of the state has shown.
UPDATE: Scott Leffler says I “finally admitted” that New York is not in play. Of course, I never said I really believed it was. After the previous Siena poll I specifically said, “I’d like to see a couple other new polls reflect the same competitiveness in the state before I start looking at New York as a battleground state,” and “still there’s plenty of reason to doubt the race in New York is really within the margin of error.”
Really?? She has caused Independent voters to leave McCain. Sure she rallied the Right wing nuts but she did nothing to get the Hillary voter. Once she opened her mouth all those voters went bye, bye. The more Palin has spoken the worse McCain’s polls have been. In the beginning she worked but now she is cast as a “bafoon” and not just by SNL.
I guess all those polls that showed McCain winning with Independents after picking Palin were all wrong.
That’s okay, eventually you’ll see that just because you say something doesn’t make it so.
Obama is up in PA by 7, in Ohio by 4, Florida by 3, and only down by 1.5 in Missouri!!! Since Palin things have gone from bad to worse. Add in the McCain’s ties to the Keating 5 (S&L scandal) and this current economic deregulation meltdown, and the game is over. Landslide!!!
Wrong.
Obama’s current surge in the polls is connected to recent economic news. It has NOTHING to do with Sarah Palin.
Of course it is ironic that Obama would benefit from bad economic news since his policies would destroy the economy… but people tend to blame the party of the incumbent president…
you have to be the biggest idiot in the world to think she won that debate. congrats Matt, you’ve achieved that status
you have to be the biggest idiot in the world to think Biden won that debate. Even with his 30+ years in the Senate, Palin not only held her own, but really got under Biden’s skin a number of times, and you could tell just by looking at him and hearing his ridiculously audible sighs.
And of course, Biden was lying through his condescending grin throughout the debate.
I understand you want Obama/Biden to win, but that doesn’t mean Biden won the debate just because he’s your guy.
Wrong!
Palin has been turning women voters off all over the country.
Remember this word “FAIRNESS” something the GOP don’t get.
Sorry buddy. You’re wrong.
Fairness is being treated equally. Not redistributing wealth. If you don’t get that, move to Cuba.
Buddy, you are mistaken. The GOP since 1980 have been servicing the wealthy. It’s time to for things to trickle up. By the way your “move to Cuba” statement doesn’t suprise me because that is exactly what you Right Wing Nuts do when you know how wrong you are. I hope you have your flag pin on!!
And you know you’ve got nothing when you fall back on those lame-ass bogus Obama campaign talking points.

This isn’t lame. Wall Street Journal. The only lame-ass taking points I see is “move to Cuba”. See Ya
Even the article you cited says the economic situation — not Sarah Palin — is the reason for the shift in Obama’s favor.
D’oh.
Of course, I say again, Obama’s policies would be devastating to our economy. Hopefully, the American people won’t let us slouch towards Socialism.
Restaino, where did you get your economics degree from? The trickle up theory DOES NOT WORK! The idea is to tax evil rich companies and give that money to the lower class with the hope that the lower class will spend more and spur on the economy. The problem is that these terrible job-creating companies will increase the prices of their products to make up for the increased tax expense. So any extra money that the lower class gets will be eaten up by the higher prices of products. The economy will stagnate.
