God Wants To Kill People To Make A Political Statement On Behalf of Democrats?

by Matt at Sep 1st, 2008

Apparently, that’s what Buffalo Pundit believes:

…a major hurricane is now barreling towards New Orleans, almost 3 years to the day after Katrina hit. Gustav will most certainly disrupt some of the hilarity in St. Paul, and so many people will be reminded over and over of the Bush Administration’s “heckuva job” back in 2005.

Perhaps God heard all of these cynical, hateful “prayers” and decided to teach the faithful a lesson.

It is interesting that he made this statement after it was revealed that former Democratic National Committee Chairman Donald Fowler was laughing and joking about Hurricane Gustav while flying home on a plane. Specifically he said “The hurricane’s going to hit New Orleans about the time they start. [Chuckle] The timing is — at least it appears now that it’ll be there Monday. That just demonstrates that God’s on our side. [Laughter] … Everything’s cool.”

Everything’s cool for Democrats, even a potential national tragedy, as long as they think they can use it to their political advantage.

UPDATE: So far, a reported 7 deaths related to Gustav… Must be God working on behalf of the Democratic Party, right?

One Response to “God Wants To Kill People To Make A Political Statement On Behalf of Democrats?”

Well, actually I wrote that post on Sunday night and post-dated it to post while I was away from the computer, so I didn’t hear what Fowler did or didn’t say.

Secondly, the point of the post, as you well know, was to point out the hypocrisy and foolishness of supposed people of faith using prayers to God to wish unpleasant things on others. In this case, one of Dobson’s minions asked people to pray for misfortune to befall Democrats - for what reason, again?

Thirdly, I’m sure that your righteous indignation is equally reserved for cases when spokesmen for what is now the Christianist base of the Republican Party claim that Katrina was really God’s punishment for debauchery in New Orleans or that 9/11 was caused by abortionists and the ACLU.

Right? Just by way of reminder, the Republican base blamed liberals - not bin Laden - for 9/11.

What we saw on Tuesday, as terrible as it is, could be miniscule if, in fact, God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve.”
Robertson replied, “Well, Jerry, that’s my feeling. I think we’ve just seen the antechamber to terror, we haven’t begun to see what they can do to the major population.”
Falwell said, “The ACLU has got to take a lot of blame for this. And I know I’ll hear from them for this, but throwing God…successfully with the help of the federal court system…throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools, the abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked and when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad…I really believe that the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way, all of them who try to secularize America…I point the thing in their face and say you helped this happen.”
Robertson said, “I totally concur, and the problem is we’ve adopted that agenda at the highest levels of our government, and so we’re responsible as a free society for what the top people do, and the top people, of course, is the court system.”
Falwell added, “Pat, did you notice yesterday that the ACLU and all the Christ-haters, the People for the American Way, NOW, etc., were totally disregarded by the Democrats and the Republicans in both houses of Congress, as they went out on the steps and and called out to God in prayer and sang ‘God bless America’ and said, let the ACLU be hanged. In other words, when the nation is on its knees, the only normal and natural and spiritual thing to do is what we ought to be doing all the time, calling on God.”
