NY-26: Kryzan Campaign Itching To Be Noticed

by Matt at Aug 22nd, 2008

Alice Kryzan may be avoiding the ugliness of the Democratic primary in the 26th District, watching Jon Powers and Jack Davis attacking each other as she stays out of the limelight, but by not being a part of the fray she’s somewhat struggling to even be noticed as a candidate.

Earlier today, Congressional Quarterly posted their “Democratic State of the States 2008″ for New York, in which, this was said about the 26th District:

In Reynolds’ district, which includes parts of suburban Buffalo and Rochester and more rural areas east and south, self-financed businessman Chris Lee is the GOP’s choice, while Democrats are weathering a tough primary scheduled for Sept. 9. Each of seven county party committees has endorsed Iraq War veteran Jon Powers, but he faces rerun candidate Jack Davis, a businessman who is pouring $3 million into the race.

No mention of Kryzan… and Kryzan’s campaign noticed, and posted a comment to the story:

Please note that you have left out the name of Jon Powers’ other opponent - Alice Kryzan. Today it was announced that Alice received the coveted endorsement of the New York League of Conservation Voters. It was also reported in the Buffalo News this week that Kryzan has raised more money in the district than Powers has. Both Powers and Davis are under scrutiny for a variety of reasons. That is why they have made more headline banners than Kryzan - not that they are either better candidates or frontrunners.

It may be true that Kryzan has raised more money in the district than Jon Powers has, but it is pretty sad that people watching the election from the outside either don’t know she exists, or don’t consider her candidacy to be relevant.

Maybe if her campaign manager was working to get her elected instead of sitting in Starbucks and commenting on blogs all day, Alice would have a better shot at this race.
