NY-26: Slaughter Says Jack Davis and Jon Powers “Pointing Out Factual Things”
by Matt at Aug 14th, 2008
A WROC-TV has a story noting the nastiness of the NY-26 Democratic primary with a revealing quote from Rep. Louise Slaughter:
And so the race has gone. Two Democrats, who can hardly resist taking a jab at the other. The Buffalo News wrote an editorial, saying the two men are too ready to do anything to win.
Davis, on the radio station WLVL on August 7th, defended $5,000 payments to consultants who were also married to chairmen of political parties. But when Powers turned up the heat, Davis apologized. “It became a distraction, it wasn’t working, it became a distraction so I severed that relationship.”
But Davis also defends his charges that Powers exaggerates about his work helping Iraqi children. He says it’s not an attack if it’s true. “That’s the truth, whats he done?”
It’s unclear whether or not voters see the race as negative and will penalize either Davis or Powers and vote for the third Democrat in the race, Alice Kryzan.
For her part, she says, “All of their bickering will not solve the problems of the people of the 26th district.” But a Democrat, who is already in congress, Louise Slaughter, defended both Powers’ and Davis’ campaigns. “Frankly what I think they’re doing is pointing out factual things, and that’s allowable.”
